Our Approach
Radiant Camera is built privacy-first. Your photos and videos stay on your iPhone unless you explicitly choose to publish one. We do not run advertising, behavioural analytics, or third-party trackers. There is no sign-up, no password, and no identity verification — we never learn who you are. The one piece of contact information we ever hold is a recovery email address, and only if you choose to add one so a lost or replaced iPhone can get your username back. The only data that ever leaves your device is what we genuinely need to deliver a feature you used, and we keep that to a minimum.
What Stays on Your Device
- Photos and videos: saved to your Photo Library in the "Radiant Camera" album. We never copy or upload them.
- R-Negative data: original RAW data and recipes used for re-editing.
- Recipes, presets, and imported LUTs: your saved looks and Custom Emulations.
- Settings: all preferences and slider positions.
- Diagnostics: performance and crash information collected by iOS to help us improve the App. This stays on your device.
What Leaves Your Device
A handful of features need to talk to a server. Whenever they do, the App sends only what is required for that feature. We never receive your name, Apple ID, phone number, contacts, or location, and your photos and videos are never uploaded except the specific ones you choose to submit. The only email address we ever hold is the optional recovery address described below.
Everything in this section that we store is linked to the anonymous identifier described below — not to you.
Subscriptions
Radiant Pro is sold through the Apple App Store. Apple handles the payment; we never see your card details. To validate your subscription and unlock Pro features, we exchange your subscription receipt with a subscription-management service. They receive only the receipt and an anonymous identifier the App generates for you on first launch.
Free Trial
When you start the free trial of Radiant Pro, the App contacts our service to issue a one-time grant tied to that anonymous identifier. Nothing else is sent.
Emulation & Recipe Catalog
The App downloads the catalog of cloud-distributed Emulations and community Recipes (and their thumbnails) from our content delivery service. These are anonymous read-only requests, and no account information is sent.
Cloud Sync (Pro)
With an active Radiant Pro subscription, the App syncs your Recipes and your favorited Emulation tags through your personal iCloud account so they follow you across iPhones signed into the same Apple ID. Custom Emulations and your photos and videos are never synced. The data is stored in your private iCloud container; we do not have access to it.
Photo Submission (Opt-In)
If you choose to submit a photo to the public Radiant gallery (for example, to feature your shot alongside an Emulation), the App uploads the image you selected and the credit name you typed. This is always explicit. Nothing is uploaded automatically. You can remove a submission by deleting your hub profile, or by emailing us.
Voting (Opt-In)
When you upvote or downvote an Emulation or Recipe, we record the vote and any feedback you typed. This helps us decide which content to feature.
Your Username (Opt-In)
If you claim a username in Recipe Hub, we store the username you chose against your anonymous identifier, so your published Recipes, photos, and comments can be credited consistently. A username is not an account: there is no sign-up, no password, and no verification of who you are. Choosing a username that identifies you in the real world is your decision, and it will be publicly visible — we recommend one that does not.
Recovery Email (Opt-In)
Because a username is tied to the anonymous identifier on your iPhone, a lost or replaced phone would normally mean a lost username. To make that recoverable, you can optionally add an email address to your hub profile. It is entirely your choice: the App never asks for it while you claim a username, nothing is gated on it, and everything works the same if you never add one.
We use it for one thing. If you ask us to move your username and hub content to a new iPhone, we email that address to confirm the request really comes from you before we move anything. It is never used for marketing, newsletters, or product announcements, we never sell or share it, and no other feature reads it. It is also not a login: there is still no sign-up and no password, recovery happens by opening a feedback conversation from the App, and we do not verify the address when you enter it — it is evidence a human weighs, not proof of who you are.
We store the address against your anonymous identifier, together with the date you added it, and nothing else. Only we can read it: the App shows it back to you masked (for example a•••@example.com), and it is never shown to other users or attached to anything you publish.
You can remove it at any time from the same place in the App where you added it, and it is deleted from our systems. Deleting your hub profile deletes it too, along with everything else listed under Your Choices below. A retired username never carries the address with it.
Comments and Replies (Opt-In)
When you post a comment or a reply in Recipe Hub, we store the text you wrote, the Recipe it is about, the time, and your anonymous identifier. Comments are reviewed by us before they appear publicly, so a moderator reads them. Published comments are visible to everyone, credited to your username.
Reporting and Blocking (Opt-In)
If you report a comment, we store which comment you reported and your anonymous identifier so the same report is not counted twice. If you block another user, we store that block against your identifier. Blocks are private — the person you blocked is never told.
In-App Feedback (Opt-In)
If you send us feedback from inside the App, we store the messages you write, your username, and — when you attach one — the screenshot you chose. For every conversation the App also includes the app version, device model, iOS version, and which plan you are on (free, trial, or Pro), so we can reproduce problems and answer you in context. If you have added a recovery email, it is shown to us alongside the conversation — that is what makes a username recovery request checkable. Feedback conversations are private between you and us; they are never published, and screenshots are stored in private storage that is not publicly reachable.
Push Notifications (Opt-In)
If you allow notifications, the App registers an Apple push notification token with our service and stores it against your anonymous identifier, so we can tell you when your Recipe is approved or someone replies to your comment. The token is issued by Apple, identifies a device rather than a person, and we use it only to deliver these notifications. We also store the notifications themselves so the App can show your in-app notification list. Turn notifications off in iOS Settings and the token stops being used; delete your hub profile and it is deleted.
Your Anonymous Identifier
The App generates a random, anonymous identifier on first launch and stores it securely on your device. It is not your name, email, Apple ID, phone number, or device serial, and we have no way to connect it to who you are. It is not an account and it has no password — whoever holds it on the device is treated as the same person.
It exists so your subscription, trial, and synced settings work, and so the community features can tell your content apart from someone else's. The data we link to it is: your chosen username, your recovery email address if you added one, the Recipes and photos you published, your comments and replies, the votes, reports and blocks you made, your feedback messages and any screenshots you attached, your push notification token, and your notifications.
If you delete and reinstall the App, or move to a new iPhone, the App generates a new identifier and the old one is not recoverable from the device. If you added a recovery email, you can ask us through in-app feedback to move your username and hub content across to the new identifier, and we will do it once we have confirmed the request by emailing that address. Without a recovery email we have no way to link a new identifier back to an old one, and the username and hub profile cannot be restored.
Permissions
- Camera: to capture photos and video. Frames are processed on your iPhone and never transmitted.
- Microphone: only when recording video with audio. Audio is encoded into the video file on device.
- Photo Library: to save captures to the "Radiant Camera" album and show them in the in-app gallery and Darkroom.
You can revoke any of these in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security at any time.
Children's Privacy
Radiant Camera is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Our anonymous identifier is not linked to any identifying information.
Your Choices
- Revoke Camera, Microphone, or Photo Library permissions in iOS Settings.
- Turn off notifications for Radiant Camera in iOS Settings to stop push notifications.
- Disable iCloud for Radiant Camera in iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Apps Using iCloud to stop Cloud Sync from running.
- Delete any comment you posted, from the App.
- Remove your recovery email from inside the App, at any time and without affecting your username or anything you published.
- Delete your hub profile from inside the App. This deletes your recovery email address, your comments and replies, your feedback conversations, your reports and blocks, your push notification token and notifications, and retires your username so nobody can claim it. Recipes and photos you published stay live but stop being attributed to you, because other people have already downloaded and voted on them. Deletion is permanent; copies may persist in backups for a limited time before they age out.
- Email us if you would rather we handle a deletion or removal request for you.
What We Do Not Do
- No advertising or ad tracking.
- No behavioural analytics or tracking SDKs.
- No selling or sharing of personal information.
- No social-login providers.
- No accounts, passwords, or identity verification.
- No marketing email, newsletters, or promotional messages — a recovery email is only ever used to confirm a recovery request.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the App evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
